Newcastle University Sailing Club

Hey guys, Its that time of year again, When you are choosing where to go to uni!  Newcastle is a great place for people who are interested in the social side of life.  The sailing club here is a great environment for everyone who is keen in racing, cruising or indeed just the social side.

If you are interested in RACING then this is a good place to be.  We are not known as a sailing uni but we are making waves.  We have had one team medal in each year and the path has shown we are only getting better.

 If you are interested in sailing for purely the enjoyment of sailing we have some great opportunities for you!  There is social sailing every Sunday and a yachting trip at the beginning of the year to give everyone a taster!

As for the SOCIALS, every Wednesday we meet at a pub/bar have some casual drinks before moving onto the nightclub where the sports teams meet.  There are also events throughout the year that are ALWAYS worthwhile!

This wednesday is going to be the annual Where’s Wally social, it going to be an amazing social, we are going to start from the Men’s bar in the Union at 8.30pm and then move on down the pub crawl which will end up in tiger tiger!!! The fancy dress is Where’s Wally!! You don’t have to be a member to come along so please bring housemates and friends.  Look forward to seeing you all there; if you are going to be lightly late please ring me on 0788688103 so we can arrange to meet you some where along the pub crawl.

Christmas is advancing very quickly and with it, as always, comes the greatly anticipated Sailing Club Christmas Ball!! Tickets can be bought from Ed and myself over the next couple of weeks for £35. This gets you a 3 course meal, half a bottle of wine each and coffee. Everyone’s welcome so if you want to bring friends it’s not a problem and doesn’t cost any extra for non-members. If you’re interested give us a text, or we’ll be selling tickets in the union over the next couple of days, We’ll be there at 1-4 on Tuesday, 12-1 Wednesday and 12-3 Thursday. Any other times we’re free we’ll send an email out before hand. This is always a really good event so hope to see lots of you there.

Tomorrow is the AU pub crawl for which you will need a special T-shirt, which are one sale outside the union. The pub crawl is in aid of helping the AU raise funds, including raising enough funds for the sailing club to update our ageing boats. It sounds as if it’ll be a really good night.

Come dressed in the colours of the rubix cube. The aim is to swap clothes with other people so that by the end of the night you are dressed in clothes of one colour. (we suggest a trip to primark!)

Starting from Box at 8p.m. on Tuesday the 13th November.

Buy wristbands from us at training on wednesday, social sailing on sunday or in the union on friday and monday 12-2.

Emma and Kate have been contacted by Sam Jacks who were so impressed with our drinking abilities whilst staying coherent, that they wish to see more of us. There for, our Tuesday meetings will be at Box (where bar 55º used to be), and then onto Sam Jacks for later drinks. Meet us at Box for 8 o’clock this Tuesday to see how things happen. It could lead to a lot of sponsorship money for the club, and help keep your membership fees down!

This Tuesday (the 2nd October) is the first evening social of the sailing club. This is a great way to get to know at least one old member as you’ll be tied to them for the evening. We are all meeting at 8p.m. at the Mens bar in the Union, where you will be tied up. Hope to see loads of you there.

For all those thinking of joining, and old members. This Saturday starts off our year with the annual BBQ at South Shields Sailing Club. Food will be supplied, as well as fun and games on the beach. Bring friends. Everyone will be meeting outside the Union 11a.m. where Emma and Kate will show you the way.
